Question by : What do you think about being a travel agent?
I?m 17 ? 18 this year and am thinking about becoming a Travel Agent

at college i have studied Travel and Tourism, Leisure Studies, Business and Maths

Being in the Travel industry has always interested me whither it?s air hostess, ground crew etc. but becoming a Travel Agent really captured my eye.

I was wondering if there was anyone here that was a Travel Agent or has had experience and what you think about the job, what?s its benefits/negatives, the hours like and the pay??

Thanks.

My mom has been a travel agent for 20 years. I?ll be honest?it?s a great job?if you have a husband who makes a lot of money because you will make crap. My mom really enjoys her job, but I?m 25 and I make more than her. So that?s a negative. Also, you have to be a people person and good at customer service. People are generally stupid when it comes to traveling, so you?ll have to be patient and good with that. She tells me about the dumbest clients that argue with her.
Bu the benefits are great deals on travel. My mom got a 7 day cruise for free for her & my father. They were offered a luxury Hawaiian cruise for free as well but my father couldn?t get the time off work. She frequently goes on weekend trips for free because they hotel wants her to say how great they are, so they let her stay there for free. And when she sells enough of something, she gets bonus?s and free trips. So that?s obviously the cool part, but like I said the pay is only about $ 15 an hour. Which sounds like a lot to you at your age- but once you have a family, that is NOTHING.
